VIPS was a restaurant we walked into when the place we originally wanted to dine at- (Tony Roma's, located right next door), had just closed, to observe their stupid, customary siesta.😠 We didn't even know it was a restaurant. I actually thought it was a clothing store! 😆 This VIPS branch is located on the border/fringes of the sleepy 'university town' neighbourhood known as Villaviciosa de Odón, and the quiet municipality of Móstoles. I later noticed several branches spread throughout Madrid. It's situated very near a big retirement home building/facility, and just off a main road. VIPS was a sizeable restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. The decor was the simple, understated, contemporary type, featuring wood panelling, cream and red leather booth-style, as well as regular table seating. There was an adorable corner for kids with colorful, miniature chairs, tables and wooden games mounted on the wall.
VIPS menu had a good variety, but wasn't overwhelming, which is great. It always makes the choice selection easier for me.👍🏽 I liked the vibrant images, (on paper placemats), of some of the foods on VIPS menu. It was a nice touch! 😍 Kindly refer to my posted pictures of those. VIPS Restaurant had about 11 STARTERS-(ENTRANTES), 8/6 TYPICAL & NEW ATYPICAL DISHES-(PLATOS ATÍPICOS & NUEVOS PLATOS ATÍPICOS), 7 HAMBURGERS-(HAMBURGUESAS), 6 SANDWICHES-(SÁNDWICHES), 4 SALADS-(ENSALADAS), 4 POKE BOWLS, 7 DESSERTS-(POSTRES), 2 PANCAKES VIPS-(TORTITAS VIPS), 4 SMOOTHIES-(BATIDOS Y SMOOTHIES) and a variety of DRINKS-(BEBIDAS)- Alcoholic and Non-Alcoholic. For the Hamburguesas/Hamburgers, you could add 4 Extras: Bacon, Fried Eggs/Huevo Frito, Cheeses/Quesos (Cheddar, Provolone or Emmental) and Avocado/Aguacante for an additional €1.
I really appreciated the fact that there was 'international representation' on/in VIPS menu. 🥰 It wasn't your stereotypical, never-ending pork/ham, pork/ham, pork/ham 'iteration', as is rather common in Spain. 🙄 They had items like Chicken Wings, Nachos, Beef Wellington, Club Sandwiches, Sphaghetti Carbonara, several Salads, Hamburgers, Salmon Tartar, Quesadillas, Chicken Schnitzel/Escalope, Curry Meatballs, Brownies, Pancakes, Yogurt/Museli, Cheesecake, French Toast, Ice Cream, and even Poke Bowls! I loved the variety and diversity. VIPS menu can, and will cater to every type of palette, and they deserve top marks for this! 👏🏼
I visited VIPS with my adult daughter, and we were very hungry, so we ordered one ALITAS SWEET CHILLI BBQ (WINGS) to share. For my Mains, I got the VIPS CLUB SALMÓN (CLUB SANDWICH), and for my Dessert, the FRENCH TOAST- which was brand spanking new! It looked so good from it's bold image on the placemat menu.😍 Hope it would deliver.🤞🏽 For her Main Meal, my daughter ordered the LA VILLAROY (Pechuga de pollo crujiente al estilo sureño rellena de bechamel, con huevo frito y un toque picante de miel-sriracha. Acompañada de batatas y salsa especial VIPS) or (Southern style crispy chicken breast stuffed with bechamel, with a fried egg and a spicy touch of honey-sriracha. Accompanied by sweet potatos and special VIPS sauce). For her Dessert, it was the CON DULCE DE LECHE Y PLÁTANO TORTITAS. These are Pancakes, smothered with caramel sauce, topped with chopped nuts and bananas, but she 'opted out' of the bananas.
The Alitas Sweet Chilli BBQ Wings were a bit on the bland side. They just didn't have that extra 'kick' that Wings which come drenched in sauce usually have. They were served alongside some French Fries/Chips. We didn't enjoy both. My VIPS Salmon Club Sandwich was the same- boring and uneventful, not having much taste. There was nothing special or stand-out about it. Chips/French Fries are definitely not VIPS strength. They were fried to an over crunchy consistency. My daughter said her La Villaroy was delicious, but there just wasn't enough of the bechamel filling in it, and the Chicken Breast was underseasoned. She said the dish needed more of the honey-sriracha sauce, and when the bechamel sauce finished, she couldn't eat the Chicken Breast on its own. According to her, her sweet potato fries were just right; being crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, plus her egg was cooked just how she likes it- slightly runny.
Also, the VIPS special sauce that accompanied the La Villaroy was too watery, and lacked taste. The word 'mejorado' was written next to La Villaroy, on the menu, which translates into- 'improved'. Based on my daughter's assessment, it begs the question- 'what improvement???' 🤔 Our Desserts on the other hand, were an entirely different story! My French Toast was mind-blowinginly, out-of-this-world delicious! 🫐🍓🧇 😋 It was creamy & crunchy, soft & sweet, tart & tangy, satiny & smooth, velvety & vibrant! I honestly cannot say enough positive things about it. It was a thick chunk of sticky, golden bread to begin with; then it was smothered with a silky cream, a yummy strawberry jam or coulis, and finally, topped with crushed nuts, granola bits, blueberries and sliced strawberries! Just describing it makes my mouth water! 🤤 It was like the perfect dessert ever! My daughter felt the same way about her Dulce De Leche Tortitas/Pancakes. She said it's hands down one of the best pancake stacks she's ever had! She gushed that they were "so fluffy & scrumptious", and fortunately didn't have that 'eggy' taste that Pancakes sometimes have.
Service at VIPS Restaurant is a solid affair. We interacted with a polite PABLOÜ, and a friendly MARTHA. There was a huge language barrier with both, as we don't speak Spanish and they barely understand English, so it was a bit of a challenge. They eventually understood us, and we somehow got by! 😄 There was also a VALERIA. I can't quite remember whether it was her or some other employee who tried to stop me from taking pictures of the restaurant. That staffer was rude and gruff, but I understand people sometimes have reservations, or security issues about a customer taking lots of pictures of their environs without them knowing the reason why. Couldn't explain to her that they were for this TripAdvisor review cause she wouldn't understand me anyway, so I didn't even bother. Nevertheless, I'd like to thank MARTHA and PABLOÜ for their warmth, and efficient service. Based on our experience, I'd say that VIPS Desserts are on a whole 'nother level; but sadly, the Starter and Main Dishes we had just weren't very good. The latter(s) could definitely be improved upon, but the former were simply phenomenal! VIPS need to focus on the 'flavour' and seasonings of their dishes. The fabulous Desserts were unfortunately not enough to get me to give VIPS a very good rating, so it's gonna have to be an average from me today. The savoury dishes were all a bit of a letdown. ☹️ Regardless of all that was wrong with our food, I definitely look forward to visiting VIPS Restaurant wherever I encounter it again. Would love to try the various delicious sounding items on their extremely diversified menu. Just hope they don't dissapoint, like our Mains and Starter did this time around. I'd return to VIPS, if not for anything, for their spectacular, wonderful Desserts. This is without a doubt where they 'shine', so I'd certainly recommend them just for this! 😋
